Course Overview

IoT 4-layer stack, wireless meshes (BLE/Zigbee/LoRaWAN), messaging (MQTT/CoAP/REST), cloud ingestion, and edge telemetry. Curriculum Structure & Core Modules: • 1. The Internet of Things Paradigm: Smart Cities, Industrial IoT (IIoT), and Medical IoT Ecosystems • 2. Four-Tier...

What You'll Learn

  • Deconstruct the four-layer IoT architecture: sensing/perception, network, middleware, and application layers.
  • Evaluate low-power wireless networking protocols: Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), Zigbee (IEEE 802.15.4), and LoRaWAN.
  • Implement lightweight publish-subscribe messaging using MQTT and CoAP protocols with QoS guarantees.
  • Connect embedded IoT edge nodes (ESP32) securely to cloud IoT platforms (AWS IoT, ThingsBoard) via TLS.
  • Design end-to-end IoT solutions addressing battery longevity, edge data aggregation, and OTA firmware updates.

Requirements

  • Completion of CPE 303 and CPE 307.
